There are many ways to wear your hair for a new look, a new statement, a new you. Nothing can kick up style and image like a hair makeover. Whether it is going for a new short chic look that is all the rage, think Kaley Cuoco, or long full locks like Jennifer Lopez. Either is within reach, no matter your current style, due to advances in sew-in weaves for longer hair and shaping with scissors and razors to get the sexy short cut.
Once the style is chosen, then one needs to make a choice in hair color. Colorists are now so good, even your mother would be hard pressed to guess that it wasn’t your natural color. The latest color agents are also less harsh and damaging. Not to mention that after color conditioning options can have your hair in better shape after coloring than it was before.
Last year’s color trend of ombré is out. It will still show up in the magazines, in advertisements, and likely on a few of our favorite celebrities, but a new fabulous trend is gaining popularity. It is called ecaille, which in French means husk or shell, in essence in the terms of hair color it means tortoiseshell. Ecaille is the term used in the hair color industry for the tortoise shell technique. It will induce golden highlights paired with darker, rich caramel tones which are fantastic for darker hair colors.
In an interview with InStyle Magazine, James Corbett, Color Director for Clariol, said, “Ecaille was a big trend this fall and I see it continuing into spring. It’s warm browns, honeys, and ambers just like a tortoiseshell comb. Blondes are more golden, with a few baby lights worked into these tones to create the sublet dimension. Think Khloe Karadshian, Jessica Alba, and brand new mom Blake Lively. I have a lot of clients asking for this!”
Corbett suggests that you have your colorist focus on a few bold face framing pieces in the front with softer painted pieces all around.
For those not keen to go darker for the ecaille look, platinum blonde is becoming a hot trend for all skin tones that will likely be hot throughout spring and summer.
Corbett remarked, “There has been a real trend with platinum hair and I don’t think it is going anywhere! Even the guys are trying to get in on this trend, think Adam Levine last year and just recently, Justin Bieber! The key is that it has to be cool and or at least baby blonde like Gwen Stefani to work well. January Jones has been rocking this color as of late as well.”
Red heads aren’t out of the trend as red will be showing up in deeper and richer tones, such as Emma Stone’s current color.
Other hair trends we can expect to see will be romantic soft curls that look finger swept, braids, and simple pulled back ponytails, or easy wound and weaved buns worn low at the neck. Simple and classic are two words that will be connected to almost any current trend in hair style or color for 2015.
