Proper Care of False Eyelash Strips for Longer Use

False eyelashes or fake eyelashes can be purchased in both strips and in individual lash groupings of 3 or more lashes.  Unlike eyelash extensions they are not intended to be worn long term and therefore are not intended to last through very wearings.  However, with proper care and by purchasing quality false lashes you can extend the use beyond just a few applications.

Here are some tips for caring for your fake temporary lashes:

• Do not wear your fake lashes while sleeping and you will get more life out of them.  Remove them at the end of your day and properly clean and store them.
• When removing your strips or individual lash groupings do so gently so that you do not stretch or improperly shape your lashes due to tugging.  There are many tips for properly removing your lashes and we can share that information with you in our salons when you come in for a fitting or purchase.
• Once the lashes are removed you should carefully remove any adhesive that is left on the lashes or lash strips.  While oil based products will remove the adhesive it is difficult to remove from the lashes and can impact the adhesion during the next wear.  You can instead use a little steam to loosen the adhesive if needed and using a pair of flat tweezers to gently remove adhesive can help. 
• If you do use an oil-based cleaner then you should attempt to remove the oil by sweeping a cotton swab with alcohol in the same area.  Lay the lash strip on a paper towel and gently brush the lightly dampened swab with alcohol from the base to the lash.  Allow the lashes to air dry before storing.
• Using mascara on false lash strips can clump the lashes and it is difficult to remove without using removers that will likely stress the lashes.  Instead of using mascara buy them in color you would want if you applied mascara.  If you decide to use mascara then understand that you will lose life use of the lashes especially if you choose waterproof mascara that can only be removed with an eye-makeup remover product.
• Storing the eyelash strips in their original container can help them maintain their shape.
